Bamunugama eVillage - Kurunegala, North Western Province

Bamunugama is situated in a beautiful landscape in Kurunegala district of North Western Province. The village consists of several smaller villages that are spread in 20 square kilometer area. The villagers’ main livelihood is agriculture. Though farmers’ main crop is rice, they grow vegetables during Maha season. 80% of the 600 families live in this village depend on agriculture.
The only haven for education is NK/ Bamunugama Maha Vidyalaya of Bamunugama. More than 750 students of the area study at this school while 40 teachers serve as teachers. The school got its computer lab in 2005. The modern computer lab that consists of 23 computers has the internet facility too. This is one of the first computer labs given by Secondary Education Modernization Project (SEMP) of Ministry of Education. Ever since the arrival of this priceless recourse, the management of the lab has ensured the productive use of the facility. Students started getting education during both school time and after school. Today, around 90% of the students can operate the computers very well. 60% communicate through Internet. Lab’s daily internet penetration exceeds 150 persons.
