Nihiluwa eVillage - Hambanthota, Southern Province |
|
Nihiluwa is a serene little village situated in the Hambantota District, Southern Province. It lies on the Beliatta - Hakmana main road. It is surrounded by the beautiful Tharaperiya mountain range and the mount Umangala. There is a Buddhist temple on top of this mountain not too far away from the famous Mugirigala Raja Maha Viharaya. The Kirama Oya encircles the village on its way towards the sea supplying water for most of the village needs. However, rice cultivation depends on four reservoirs in the village. Basically the village depends on agriculture. The village is almost covered with rice fields. Apart from that, some chena (slash and burn) cultivation can be seen in our village. Few villagers engage in woodcrafts while others are cultivating commercial crops. There are four schools in the village. Nihiluwa Public School is a leading one in the area. Nearly 500 students are studying in it. This school has a computer unit since 2004. |
